Bike to Run, Take 2

The first Bike to Run was super successful and this Saturday we're going to do it again. This time, the ride is going to be a bit shorter and we're going to have a few distance options for the run to keep it interesting. The route and info will be posted at the site: http://www.westphillyrunners.com/p/b2r.html We're riding to West Fairmount Park's Belmont Plateau. Also, post-B2R brunch at my house for all interested - 40th and Powelton.

Upcoming Sporting Events:

Saturday, 3/3. Bike to Run. So good, I'm writing about it twice. 10am at the EMS Store (34th and Chestnut).

Wednesday, 3/7. Post-run at Heeju's. Run, eat, drink. The usual post-run bash at WPR's house.

Sunday, 4/1. (David) April('s A) Fool(s) Run to The Grey Lodge. Fishtown Beer Runners Commander in Chief leads a parade of mischievous fools north along the (in)famous Frankford Ave to the quite famous Grey Lodge. Sounds like an excuse for mid-day Sunday run and drinks to me.

Saturday, April 21. Cobbs Creek 5K. Sign up now! This is the official West Philly Runners run and I personally challenge you all to a race. Registration is a very affordable $20 and goes to benefit kids' recreational (that means sports) activities in the Cobbs Creek Park. You're basically a bad person if you don't sign up.

Sunday, May 26. ODDyssey Half Marathon. Costumed half marathon in West Philly! Do I really need to say anything more? When you register, on the 2nd screen there is a question "How did you hear about the ODDyssey Half Marathon?" Select "Ambassador" and then select Alon Abramson from the field that shows up. If we get 20 people registered under my name we'll get a post-run tent where we can drink and make merry. If we get 30 we'll get a private porter John!

The Runs...(ending at Fiume)

Meet Joggy the Squirrel

Have you been feeling lost, uncertain about your identity? West Philly Runners certainly has. That is, until now. We finally have an official identifying logo. Inspired by Julia's original squirrel stencil, the new logo brings out the real essence of West Philly Runners - a running, drinking squirrel.

And now that we can brand ourselves, West Philly Runners finally represents as an official sponsor of the Cobbs Creek 5K, coming up on April 21! Check it out and sign up!! The money raised is going for outdoor programs for the youth in the neighborhoods around Cobbs Creek.

We're also going to be going out to the park over the coming few months to help trail maintenance for the race and for the community to use. The volunteer crews will do some good honest manual labor, clearing brush and laying gravel among other activities. The shifts are 10-2pm and will be on...
  • Sunday, March 11
  • Saturday, March 17
  • Saturday, March 24
  • Saturday, April 7
  • Sunday, April 15

The next Bike to Run is coming up next weekend, March 3rd. We're going to be biking out to West Fairmount Park and doing some fun mountain bike trails in Belmont Plateau.

Run to Marcel and Michael's!

I established West Philly Runners, because I love this town of West Philly. I connect to my surroundings by being immersed in them and I have always explored by running. The upcoming Cobbs Creek 5K is the closest I have been able to come to connecting with West Philadelphia through West Philly Runners. For those who don't know, I have been involved in the planning of this race since its inception last year. This year, I developed the race website - www.CobbsCreek5K.com - and I am helping with the race planning process. This is about more than just a race. It is about connecting people to a beautiful piece of West Philly, which has been lost to people for a long time. This race has been the driver for the rehabilitation for the entire Cobbs Creek Park and is raising money for programs for kids in the surrounding area so that they can utilize this amazing resource. Registration is finally open so check it out and sign up!

We're running to Mike and Marcel's this week! They live at 521 N. Budd Street. If you would like to bring anything, please contact me and we'll coordinate. I am routing this week's runs to their houses, but passing through Fiume in case it is too far out of the way for anyone.

Upcoming

Broad Street Run Registration opens on Wednesday, 2/15 If you didn't hear yet, you should probably sign up within the first few days since it is going to sell out again. Just a heads up, I'm planning to put together a post-run drinking station with the other local running clubs like Fairmount, Bryn Mawr, and Philadelphia Running Clubs. I will try to sync up with Fishtown Beer Runners and South Philly Striders to make it more fun...

ODDyssey Half Marathon Remember that if you plan to register, you should sign up under my name!

Snow?!

Snow! There's a chance! And we might be able to run in it!! Fingers crossed, there still might be a winter this year.

Upcoming

Broad Street Run Registration Opens 2/15. Mark your calendars and brace yourselves for the absurdity that is the Broad Street Run registration. The race sold out in 4 days last year. Will it be even faster this year? I think we should get a little wager going.

The next Bike to Run will be on 3/3. Saturday's Bike to Run event was a ton of fun with a ride out to East Fairmount Park to run the historic Boxer's Trail. Join us next month for the next installment and please enjoy my abstract collage of what Bike to Run means to me. Arwin took some great photos and they're posted on the Facebook.
